About myself
I'm Mikhail Potapov, and I transform ideas into music.
Composer, arranger, sound producer—but for me, these aren't just professions, they're ways to express words without words.
I believe music can convey what language can't:
mood, atmosphere, a whole universe of emotions.
What I do:
I work with filmmakers, advertising agencies, and musicians.
But whatever the task, my principle remains constant:
sound must touch.

- I'm arranging the sound so that it works for the project's idea.

Stages of music production
How does the process work?
Idea
The idea is the most valuable element in the music production process (as practice shows). It is at this stage that the author's values are established, which influence the uniqueness and appeal of the music (song). At this stage, the main melody and harmony are conceived, as well as the genre and style of the musical piece.
Arrangement
An arrangement is the clothing of a musical idea. The depth of its impact and its emotional impact on a listener largely depends on the arrangement. Whether a track rocks or not, whether it's catchy or not—it all depends on the arrangement. It's important to understand that a good arrangement has artistic merit.
Recording
Vocal or instrument recording. At this stage, it's important to extract as much material as possible from the musician or vocalist. Often, a good musician or vocalist doesn't quite understand what to play (sing) in a given composition or doesn't fully grasp the composer or arranger's intentions. Therefore, a sound producer or vocal producer is often present during the recording to help and keep the focus on the target.
Mixing
At this stage, the layers of the pie are laid out and all sounds and instruments are positioned in space. All sounds, instruments, and voices are played. Volumes and timbral frequencies are balanced. Mixing is both a technical process and a creative one, which is why different sound engineers produce different musical images when mixing the same material.
Mastering
The final stage of music production.
Mastering is the manipulation of the resulting track after mixing.
It is subject to combing, polishing, and retouching (final equalization, compression, limiting, and maximization).
